AvenDesk

Accessibility

Built so everyone
gets an answer.

AvenDesk takes WCAG 2.2 Level AA as what we aim at, on this site and in the portal. A business that turns customers away at the door is not one we would want to answer the phone for.

We have not had this site formally audited, and we do not claim to conform. Saying otherwise without the testing behind it would be the kind of claim this page exists to avoid. What follows is what we actually do, and what we know we have not checked.

What that means in practice

Five things we hold to.

Everything works from the keyboard
Every link, button, form field and dialog can be reached and operated with Tab, Enter and Escape alone, in an order that follows the page. Focus is always visible — a violet ring, never removed — and it is never trapped inside a component you cannot leave. Where a block of links repeats on every page, a skip link comes first.
Text you can actually read
Body text is checked to at least 4.5:1 against its background, and large text and interface borders to at least 3:1. Nothing is carried by colour alone. Text reflows to 320px without a horizontal scrollbar, and stays legible when zoomed to 200% or when you override our spacing.
It reads correctly aloud
Pages are built from real landmarks and headings in order, so a screen reader can navigate by structure. Images that carry meaning have text alternatives, and images that are decoration are hidden from the reading order rather than described. Form fields have real labels, and an error says what is wrong in words.
Nothing moves that you did not ask to move
There is no autoplaying audio and nothing flashes. The panels on this site slide as you scroll; if your system is set to reduce motion, they stop and simply appear. Nothing has a time limit you have to beat.
The receptionist has a way round it
The phone line is itself an accessible route — someone who cannot use a screen can ring and book with a person's voice, at any hour. Texting is the same route in writing: it keeps a readable transcript and does not depend on drag, a gesture, or a steady hand.

Known limitations

Where we are not there yet.

Conformance is a claim, and a claim with no exceptions listed is usually an unchecked one. These are the parts we know can fall short.

Video captions
Marketing video we produce ourselves is captioned. Footage supplied by a client may reach the site before captions do; tell us and we will caption it or take it down.
Third-party embeds
A map, a review widget or a booking embed from another company sits inside our page but is built by them, and we cannot always fix its markup. Where one falls short we provide the same information another way on the same page.
Documents
PDFs a client asks us to publish are not always tagged for screen readers. We will convert anything that matters into a real web page on request.

Tell us

If something stops you, say so.

Email us with the page and what happened — “the booking form loses focus after the date field” is plenty. We reply within two working days, tell you what we found, and fix what is ours to fix. If a fix will take time, we will say when, and give you another way to do the thing you came to do in the meantime.

On any substantial change to the site

Built in recent versions of Chrome, Safari and Firefox. We have not tested it with a screen reader end to end. If you use one and something here does not work, telling us is the fastest way it gets fixed.
